Like the hornero, but not so much.
Like the hornero, but not so much.
The nest
The learning from the Hornero asked for a body. A place where introspection could be inhabited.
We set out to build a nest on a human scale: a space for yoga, meditation, reading, and ceramics, designed for anyone wanting to recharge their essence in a place crafted with native Delta materials.
Like the hornero, but not quite: with the same desire to do things well and the humility of knowing we were just learning.

Designed with the elements
The nest rests on stilts, two meters above the ground, because the river rises unannounced. Its orientation is not random: a double wall protects it from the western sun, another cuts the cool southeastern wind, and a window lets in the low winter sun while bypassing the summer heat.
Cool when the heat hits, warm when the cold arrives. A space designed from nature, not in spite of it.

Materials of the Delta
Nothing came from afar. The nest was built with what the island and neighbors offered. The mud beneath our feet breathes, insulates against humidity and sound, and holds heat. Formium is spun into fibers that support the weave. Reed and wicker, light and flexible, bend into organic shapes. Willow rods and red eucalyptus provide the structure and foundation.
Materials that will one day return to the earth.
We chose materials that follow the natural cycle: born from the Delta and, when the time comes, returning to it.

The weave
We interwoven fibers as well as knowledge. The shape of the ascent was born from Romina's circular movement; the straight steps, from Maxi's observation. Between the curved and the straight, we found the right morphology.
Every hand that joined left its mark on the weave.

The temptation of the shortcut
Along the way, a tempting idea appeared: using plastic straps to build ten nests in a month. It was faster. It was cheaper. And it was, exactly, what we did not want to be.
Plastic doesn't connect with the process or with others. There is no joy. There is no connection with nature. Once again, we chose the long path
“The island isolates you,” they say. But the island connects and nature heals: it cares for you, protects you, and makes you stronger.
Moments of joy
Building this way was also a celebration. There were shared meals, flamenco, bamboo instruments, and fire at the end of the day.
The process was not just about building a space: it was about living it as it came to life.

Learning:
The Nest is a bridge between the earthly and the spiritual, woven from concepts, materials, and hands.
We learned that form is not imposed: it is discovered through observing and listening. And that a sanctuary for introspection can only be built, too, from within.
